Hatshepsut's Appearence
Hatshepsut had been depicted as a typical queen with a female body appropriately feminine garments. The only difference between Hatshepsut and others like her was that she dressed as a king, even affecting a false beard. It was never her intention to pass herself off as a man, rather, she called herself the " female falcon". She was depicted, at her own orders, as a male in many contemporary images and sculptures. Hatshepsut remained largely unknown to scholars until the 19th century.
